Cake Decorating Can Be Fun! Even If You’re a Beginner!

Looking at all the wonderful cakes in a store made me think that I might like to try my hand at cake decorating. You bake a cake, ice the cake, add some color, some flowers,a few decorations and you’re done. Sound simple? 

Hi! My name is Lorraine and I would like to let you know that cake decorating is fun and easy to do.

I started cake decorating when my kids were very young. While I was working outside the home I met a friend that did some cake decorating and she inspired me.  I was interested as to how she made the cakes look so nice and she always made her own frosting flowers.  I was impressed by that.

The next time there was a family birthday I asked if I could make the cake. The family was so surprised at how well it looked, that after that day I was chosen to do the family cake decorating from that day forward!

 Eventually, people from my work started seeing my cake decorating skills and they started to ask if I could do some cake decorating for them.  When I asked how they wanted it to be decorated they would always just leave it up to me. That helped me to be as creative as I could be! I really began to love cake decorating and enjoyed coming up with creations and cake decorating ideas. I started doing everything from birthday cake decorating, to baby shower cake decorating.

The friend that got me started in cake decorating saw how interested I was and how well I was doing and gave me my first cake decorating book by Wilton, and I still have that book to this day. She also taught me how to make frosting flowers even though I was left handed and she was right. We took a cake decorating course together one winter to get more cake decorating tips.

Today I still do some cake decorating for family and friends. I particularly like to decorate cakes with people’s picture on them. I have decorated many wedding cakes, and many were false cakes made up with Styrofoam.

Decorating cupcakes is great for kid’s party as you can make many different flavors so all are satisfied.
